HOW TO COPE WITH THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS

One of the best things about being a writer is that you can set your own schedule. So when you’re faced with the problem of childcare during the school holidays it’s not an issue.

When before you wrote in the daytime. During the school holidays you can choose to write during the evening, when you would normally be sleeping. Because you are your own boss.

Doctors thoroughly recommend staring at a screen as a brilliant way to wind down before sleeping. Which is excellent because it’s the last thing you do before closing your eyes.

On the days that you’re lucky enough to have arranged a playdate or summer camp day event and your child doesn’t have a surprise illness on that day, so much admin will have built up that you’ll be doing that instead. Or if you do start writing it will mostly be spent re-reading what you’ve already written (because you’ve managed to totally forget it since you last saw it).

Basically a doddle.
